About Us

Annamalai University is a public state university located in Annamalai Nagar, Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, India. The university was founded in 1929 by the entrepreneur Annamalai Chettiyar in the aftermath of the Montagu-Chelmsford Reforms. The most significant development is the enactment of the Annamalai University Act, 2013 (Tamil Nadu Act 20 of 2013), which has come into force from September 25, 2013, after obtaining the assent of His Excellency, the President of India.Concerned over the state of the university, which is embroiled in a deep financial crisis, the State government decided to draw authority from Section 28(4) of the law concerning the University to appoint the Administrator. The state government posted Mr. Shiv Das Meena, an IAS officer with over 20 years’ experience, as Administrator of the University during April, 2013 to reform the University from the financial crisis. After his tenure the state government appointed Vice chancellor for the University and started to redeploy the surplus teaching staff of Annamalai University phased manner based on his recommendation in various government colleges and Universities on an agreement basis for three years and the duration is being extended by issuing government order when required. The redeployed Annamalai University Professors faced several problems such delayed salary, unavailing benefits and inequality among the teaching staff etc in where they appointed. To deliberate and solve these problems, the redeployed professors of Annamalai University took the lead during the Joint Action Committee meeting organised by the volunteers of deputed professors of Annamalai University at Trichy on 16th September 2017. Annamalai United Deputed Professors Association which is a registered welfare association called AUDPWA. Presently it has more than 300 active members who are working for the welfare of entire Annamalai University deputed professors.
